At the american bass anglers tournament I competed in last saturday on the Potomac I got 3 bites in a 9 hour day........ One of the bites I had was in the grass, the bass got hooked and I had pressure on him but by the time we got to him by way of trolling motor he was gone. My Partner caught one 14 incher that weighed about a pound by punching isolated grass on the main river. Several guys didn't catch a thing all day, only 1 guy had a limit weighing 9 pounds. I did catch a 6 pound cat fish. I ended up learning a lot about punching and got to have the back of the boat to myself. I threw every lure I took with me, but the Strike King Caffeine shad got the most strikes out of all of them. My Partner was very nice and was the assistant tournament director. It was cool going 65 miles an hour in a bass boat. We fished mostly in Mattawoman creek, but did do some punching on the main river. There were A LOT of yellow perch in the Grass, but I did not have a lure to imitate them well enough.......... We saw a few bass in the holes in the grass. . It turns out my hunch was right from the beginning, which was that a swimming jig worked around grass would get bit, and It turned out I was right because thats what won the tournament, but I did not stick with it long enough and did not give it enough time
